Service Offered

Computer Centre, being the nerve centre of the University takes pioneer role in offering  many important and vital services to the University Communities, Colleges and Society.  Efforts are always there to improve the Quality of Services provided to the Communities members. Some of the Major services that are provided through Computer Centre are as follows:

1.Services Offered to University Communities:

a)                  Computational and Research Facilities: The Computer Centre having newly installed computational and Research Oriented Software, Hardwares and having 24 hours internet services, offered these facilities to Research Scholar, Faculty members and PG students of the University through Enrolment. A large number of  users under this category are enrolled and uses these services.

b)                 Internet and Other LAN Services through UGC-INFONET Programme :

The Computer centre is also looking after the UGC-INFONET Programme under which the Internet Connectivity (Broadband VSAT) speed has been upgraded to 1 MBPS from 256 KBPS during 2006-2007 and from 1 MBPS VSAT to 2 MBPS Lease Line in this month (1^st July,2008) to provide smooth, high speed and uninterrupted (24 hours) internet services to all the Internet and LAN Users of the University community. The Centre is maintaining Campus Wide Optical Fiber Based GBIC LAN.

The University has also obtained a 2 MBPS backup Internet Connectivity (Broadband) from BSNL during 2006-2007 to enhance the Quality of Service throughout the Campus even during peak working hours.

Total No. of Computer In the Campus : 392+25

No. of Computer in LAN : 290

The total number computer having Internet facilities : 225

Total Internet Users : 2000 (including PG Students, Faculty, R/S, Sfaff)

All these Internet users(faculty, R/S, PG students – total:2000) are able to access all the subscribed e-Journals (full text) under UGC-INFONET e-Journal Consortia.

2. Services Offered to Affiliated Colleges:

Ø      Training the Staff of Colleges for deployment of computer in Administrative and academic activities under Computer Literacy and Awareness programme.

Ø      Advising the College as consultant in computerising the College activities as expert member nominated by the University.

Ø      Proposed to launch an University-College Interface and connectivity programme through Dialup and designing, launching and maintenance of Web site and Administrative Software for each college on payment basis

3.    Services Offered to Society:

Ø      Providing Training and computer courses for Madhyamik and Higher Secondary Students in time bound schedule (3 months course) under computer Literacy and awareness programme.

Ø      Working as consultant in computerising all the Affiliated Colleges including University-College Network, the VCC Co-operative Banks, PC Banks, UCO Banks etc.

Ø      Working as consultant in computer setup in the District Administration and Schools.

Ø      Organising Computer Fair at District Level

Ø      Proposed to organise the computer literacy and awareness programmes for the youths of rural and tribal areas in Purulia, Bankura and Midnapore Districts through Seminars/demonstration etc.

Ø      Proposed to take up full fledged consultancy and software development  work  (if sufficient hardware and software infrastructure is available.).
