Department of Computer Science : The journey of th e Computer Science Department at Vidyasagar University began in the year 1998. The University Grants Commission provided the initial expenses for the setting up of the Computer Center and the Laboratories. On the recommendation of an expert committee AICTE accorded the necessary approval for conducting classes in MCA from the academic session of 1998. Initially it started with minimal infrastructure, still the students toiled day in and day out complemented by the able guidance and helping hand put forward by highly qualified faculty members which provided them with enough knowledge and qualification to compete with their counterparts at other Universities and Institutions. The result is today they are placed in good posts at many top ranking IT and software companies. From then on there was no looking back. Today the computer science department at Vidyasagar University has four well-equipped laboratories with more than 60 computers, Internet facility, its own departmental library and other latest facilities for the students. Now different companies (e.g. SASCON PRIVATE LIMITED, LASER5 Co., Ltd. RS software etc.) conduct seminars here. In the year 2002, along with MCA the University opened the postgraduate course M.Sc. in Computer Science. Today the University has two full-fledged courses running simultaneously at the Computer Science Department----- a three-year full time course in MCA and two-years M. Sc. in computer science. These two courses are at par with their corresponding courses at any other University or institute having a totally complete and updated syllabus of its own which is quite comparable with the best syllabus available for these courses anywhere. The department plans to bring out a regular journal with relevant and updated details in the global field encouraging students to continue their research in newly emerging zones. Air-conditioned laboratories and lecture halls with impressive audio-visual aids for better teaching are also available here. Academic Programs : The Department Offers Following Programs Of Study:- Master Of Computer Application(M.C.A) The Master of Computer Applications (MCA) Program is a three year (six semester) course open to graduates in any stream having studied Mathematics up to 10+2 level. The program is a right mix of Core and Application areas approved by AICTE… Admission to MCA course is made on the basis of performance in joint entrance examination for computer application (JECA) held by the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination Board. Program is a two year (four semester) course .Admission to M.Sc computer science is granted to students who have qualified in the B.Sc.
