Department of Electronics :

About the department :
The M.Sc. in Electronics course was started in the year 2001 with an approval of University Grants Commission and finally a separate department for Electronics was established in the year 2004 at Vidyasagar University Midnapore – 721102, West Bengal, India. The course was opened up at Vidyasagar University with the objective to increase scopes for the rural students to study a modern subject Viz. Electronics, to pursue research work therein and to develop qualified man-powers in the arena of Electronics. The department offers presently M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Electronics. The department is equipped with Computer Lab, Hardware Lab, Communication Lab, Digital Electronics Lab, Microprocessor Lab, Device Lab and Opto-electronics Lab. Different modern simulation softwares viz. PSPICE, 8085 Simulator, Mat lab, Lasi etc. are also incorporated in laboratories. Students can access internet connection from the department and a large volume of books from the departmental library as well as from the central library.  E-subscriptions for different reputed journals are also made to facilitate research activities. The department has a good heritage of placing the students in different multi-national companies (MNCs) like Reliance, Hutch, VSNL, Videocon etc. and in different academic and/or research institutes. The department is planning to offer an M.Tech. course in Electronics and a Distance Mode M.Sc. in Electronics course, shortly.

Ø      New inclusion from emerging fields in curriculum :

i) Material Science.

ii) VLSI Technology.

iii) Quantum Electronics.

iv) Optical Fiber Communication.

v) Mobile Communication.

Research areas/fields :

i) Solar photo-voltaics.

ii) Optical Fibers.

iii) Nano-science.

iv) Modeling, Fabrication and characterization of MESFET.

 

Highlights :

i) Curriculum based on semester system.

ii) Regular classes, personal attention to the individual students, emphasis on group discussion, assignment and seminars.

iii) The department encourages the students to complete their project works at different industrial organizations to promote their job opportunities.

 iv)  A good record of placement of the passed out students in different organization like Reliance, Hutch, VSNL, Videocon etc.

v) University placement cell organizes job oriented training programs for the students of Electronics at a regular interval.

 

Future Plan :

Ø    The department is planning to offer an M.Tech. course in Electronics and a distance mode M.Sc. in Electronics course shortly
