Dr. Maharshi Sarkar is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Bengali at Vidyasagar University, West Bengal, India. Since joining the University on 12 February 2019, he has been actively engaged in teaching, research, and academic extension activities in the field of Bengali language and literature. He completed his Ph.D. in Bengali from Jadavpur University in 2018. Prior to that, he obtained his M.Phil. in Bengali from Jadavpur University in 2014 and his M.A. in Bengali in 2012 from the same institution. He also earned a B.Ed. degree from Ramakrishna Mission Sikshana Mandira under the University of Calcutta and qualified the UGC-NET examination in 2014. Dr. Sarkar passed the Madhyamik Pariksha in 2005 and the Higher Secondary Examination in 2007 from Santipur Municipal High School, Santipur, Nadia, West Bengal. His academic journey reflects a sustained commitment to excellence in literary and cultural studies. Before joining Vidyasagar University, he served as a Counsellor in the Bengali Programme of Netaji Subhas Open University through the Bhangar Mahavidyalaya Study Centre. His areas of specialization and research interest include Bangladeshi Literature, Partition Literature, Enclave Literature, Bengali Fiction, Comparative Literature, Neighbouring Literatures, and Bengali Literature beyond Bengal. Dr. Sarkar has published research papers in reputed national and international journals and edited volumes. He has presented papers at numerous academic conferences and seminars and has delivered invited lectures on Bengali literature, language movements, border studies, and cultural history. His scholarly work primarily focuses on issues of identity, displacement, language, culture, and socio-political realities as reflected in Bengali literary traditions. Through his teaching, research, publications, and academic engagement, Dr. Sarkar continues to contribute significantly to the advancement of Bengali literary studies and higher education in India.

Dr. Maharshi Sarkar's academic and research interests encompass a wide range of areas within Bengali language and literature, with particular emphasis on literary representations of borders, displacement, identity, and cultural exchange. His research primarily focuses on Bangladeshi Literature, Partition Literature, Enclave Literature, Bengali Fiction, Comparative Literature, and Bengali Literature beyond Bengal (Bohirbongiya Bangla Sahitya). A significant aspect of his scholarly work examines the socio-political and cultural implications of territorial divisions, migration, and borderland experiences as reflected in Bengali literary texts. He is especially interested in exploring how literature negotiates questions of identity, memory, citizenship, belonging, and marginality in the context of South Asian history and society. Dr. Sarkar's research also extends to the study of neighbouring and comparative literatures, with a focus on literary interactions between Bengal and adjacent linguistic and cultural regions. His work seeks to understand the dynamics of cultural exchange, multilingualism, and literary circulation across geographical and political boundaries. Another important area of his academic interest is the study of Bengali literature produced outside the geographical boundaries of West Bengal and Bangladesh. Through the investigation of diasporic and extra-territorial Bengali literary traditions, he explores the evolving relationship between language, culture, community, and regional identity. His interests further include modern and contemporary Bengali fiction, literary historiography, language movements, cultural studies, and the intersection of literature with social, economic, and political realities. He is committed to interdisciplinary approaches that integrate literary analysis with insights from history, sociology, political science, and border studies. Through his research, teaching, and publications, Dr. Sarkar aims to contribute to a deeper understanding of Bengali literary cultures in their regional, national, and transnational dimensions, while foregrounding the voices, experiences, and narratives that emerge from borderlands, peripheral spaces, and historically marginalized communities.
