The Centre for Life Sciences at VU was started in July 2016 with an Integrated M. Phil, Ph. D. Course in Life Sciences having an intake capacity of 20 students. We are committed to the vision of Vidyasagar University, i.e. “The overall emphasis of the university is not to perpetuate the traditional nature of the other universities of West Bengal but to merge as a distinctive entity with a special nature of its own.”.

The future plans of this centre include extensive interdisciplinary research programmes by students and faculties in various areas of Biology.

The centre’s main endeavour would be to achieve excellence in teaching and learning by research. The centre will promote collaborative activities at national and international level. The Centre for Life Sciences is committed to serving the academic community and public at large through its outreach initiatives like basic and translational research in the field of food security, sustainable environmental development and health care.
