Faculty members of different departments were engaged in a multidisciplinary research on “Biodiversity documentation, management and bioprospecting, involving local people of the Jangalmahal”
Different research activities pertaining to Fishery, Ecology, Genetics & Molecular Biology and Parasitology are going on in the department to unravel the mystery of natural science giving due importance on inter-disciplinary approach. Several pro-people research ventures such Vermi-composting, Aquaculture, water quality monitoring, Biodiversity documentation work, Identification of molecular markers for detectionof diseases, Parasitic carriers & vectors and the therapeutic solution works are being undertaken by the department as a part of ‘Laboratory to Land’ research activities
Sub-theme I: Biodiversity documentation, habitat monitoring and ecological Restoration. Conservation of endangered fishes and amphibians and building up of DNA barcodes and creating biological databases.Involvement of local people in biodiversity conservation.
Sub-theme II: Bioprospecting of potential plant or animal products for amelioration of prevalent diseases (mainly malnutrition, cancer and vector-borne diseases) of people of Jangal Mahal and subsequently contribute in enhancing their livelihood through pisciculture
Sub-theme III: Study of sensitive systems of fishes and biochemical composition in order to chalk out the reasons for diminishing fish fauna; Working out solutions through ecotoxicological indicators, Cell signaling, molecular mechanisms of inflammation and eDNA
