Biographical Sketch
Prof. Abhijit Sinha is a Professor of Commerce at Vidyasagar University, with extensive teaching and research experience in the areas of finance, banking, insurance, and management. He began his academic career as an Assistant Professor in Commerce in June 2005 and served in this position until June 2019. He subsequently became an Associate Professor of Commerce in June 2019 and was appointed Professor with effect from June 2022. Prof. Sinha holds a Ph.D. from the University of Kalyani, with his doctoral research focusing on “A Study on Performance of Public and Private Sector Life Insurance Companies in India.” He also holds an MBA in Finance from the Indian Institute of Social Welfare and Business Management (IISWBM), University of Calcutta, an M.Com from the University of Kalyani, and a B.Com (Hons.) from Goenka College of Commerce and Business Administration, University of Calcutta. His academic and research interests encompass Corporate Finance, Banking, Insurance, Financial Inclusion, Corporate Governance, Financial Literacy, and the social dimensions of finance. His research has addressed a wide range of issues including capital structure and firm performance, dividend policy, financial efficiency of banks and insurance companies, non-performing assets, financial inclusion and literacy, agricultural and industrial credit, mobile banking, and corporate board diversity. Prof. Sinha has published extensively in national and international journals and has contributed chapters to edited books. His publications reflect a strong empirical orientation and cover the banking, insurance, corporate finance, financial inclusion, and broader financial-sector domains. He is also the author of several books, including Financial Performance Analysis of Life Insurers in India, Financial Inclusion and Microfinance in Developing Economies, and works on financial institutions, banking, insurance, and contemporary economic challenges. He has supervised 10 doctoral research scholars. Prof. Sinha has delivered invited lectures and served as a speaker, resource person, track chair, plenary-session chairman, and paper presenter at numerous academic conferences, seminars, and workshops. His professional contributions also include organising academic events and serving as a lifetime member of the Indian Accounting Association, Midnapore Branch. His academic achievements have been recognised through awards including the Research and Publication Award 2024 from Vidyasagar University and a Best Paper Award from IMI Bhubaneswar.
