Introduction :
Research and innovation are fundamental pillars for enhancing the quality, relevance and impact of higher education. Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) have a critical role in addressing emerging societal, economic, environmental and technological challenges through the generation, application and dissemination of new knowledge. A strong and vibrant higher education ecosystem, supported by a culture of research, innovation, entrepreneurship and technology development, is therefore essential for achieving sustainable national development and contributing meaningfully to society.
In this context, the establishment of the Research and Development Cell (RDC) at Vidyasagar University represents an important institutional initiative to strengthen and institutionalize the University's research and innovation ecosystem. The RDC will serve as a facilitating and coordinating mechanism to promote quality and impactful research, encourage interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary and transdisciplinary collaborations, and create pathways for translating research outcomes into socially relevant applications, technologies, products and innovations.
The RDC will work towards creating an enabling environment in which faculty members, research scholars and students can pursue innovative ideas, develop competitive research proposals, access research infrastructure and funding, establish collaborations, generate intellectual property and contribute to knowledge-based solutions to contemporary challenges. It will also foster stronger linkages with industries, government agencies, research organizations, academic institutions and community-based organizations at the local, national and international levels.
Through systematic policy support, capacity building, resource mobilization, research collaboration, consultancy, intellectual property protection, product development and commercialization, the RDC will endeavour to enhance the quality, visibility and societal impact of research undertaken at the University. The RDC will also promote responsible research practices, ethical conduct and adherence to appropriate national and international standards of research integrity.
Vision :
To establish a robust, inclusive and sustainable institutional mechanism for developing, strengthening and advancing the research, innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem of Vidyasagar University, with a focus on excellence, collaboration, societal relevance and global engagement.
Mission :
- To create a conducive and enabling environment for enhancing the quality, productivity and impact of research and innovation.
- To promote interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary and transdisciplinary research and strengthen collaborations with industry, government, academic institutions, research organizations and community-based organizations at local, national and international levels.
- To facilitate greater access to research infrastructure, expertise and financial resources through effective resource mobilization, funding support and strategic partnerships.
