Biographical Sketch
Dr. Manoj Kumar Pati is an Associate Professor & Head, in the Department of Fishery Sciences, Vidyasagar University, Midnapore, West Bengal. He obtained his Ph.D. from Utkal University, with his doctoral research conducted at ICAR-Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture (ICAR-CIFA), Bhubaneswar, focusing on gonadal development, induced breeding, and larval rearing of the striated murrel (Channa striatus). He has academic and research experience spanning aquaculture, reproductive biology and fisheries science, including post-doctoral research at the ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute (ICAR-CIFRI), Barrackpore.
Dr. Pati has contributed extensively to research and postgraduate education in fisheries and aquaculture. His academic contributions include peer-reviewed research publications, book chapters, doctoral supervision and externally funded research projects. He has also served as Principal Investigator and Coordinator of research and training programmes and has been actively involved in organising academic workshops and professional activities. His academic contributions have been recognised through several honours, including the Prof. D. K. Belsare Medal and the Outstanding Fishery Scientist award.
Academic Interest
Dr. Manoj Kumar Pati’s primary research interest lies in reproductive physiology and aquaculture, with particular emphasis on fish reproductive biology, induced breeding, gamete quality and hatchery technology. His research also encompasses the effects of environmental and chemical stressors on fish reproduction, including studies on phthalate-induced reproductive toxicity and thermal stress in freshwater fishes.
His broader research interests include fish physiology and biochemistry, aquaculture production, fish health, environmental stress biology, fish genetics and biotechnology, and proteomics/omics-based approaches. His recent work extends to toxicoproteomics and fish lens biology, while his research and academic activities also address sustainable aquaculture, biofloc systems, fish nutrition, biodiversity and fisheries resource management.
