Dr. Avick Biswas, Assistant Professor, Department of Anthropology, Vidyasagar University, since March 2020. Previously, he spent 11 years at the Centre for Archaeological Studies & Training, Eastern India, under the Govt. of West Bengal as academic faculty. I work as a prehistoric archaeologist, primarily interested in field archaeology, lithic technology, experimental stone knapping, paleoanthropology, rock art, heritage management and museum studies. I have published more than 30 research articles in various national and international journals and books, as well as presented research papers at several seminars/conferences/workshops. I received the Sudhir Ranjan Das Memorial Award from IHC (2022) and the Research Publication Award (2024) from Vidyasagar University.

My research focuses on Human Evolution, Prehistoric Archaeology, and Geoarchaeology, with particular emphasis on reconstructing early human occupation, evolutionary history, and palaeoenvironments through integrated archaeological and geological investigations. My research interests encompass palaeoanthropology, experimental archaeology, lithic technology, river valley archaeology, geomorphology, and Quaternary landscape evolution, with a special focus on understanding the dynamic relationships between humans and landscapes through man–land, man–river, and human–environment interactions. These interdisciplinary approaches contribute to understanding the biological, cultural, and environmental contexts of early human populations. My research also extends to ethnoarchaeology and rock art studies in West Bengal and Odisha, examining the connections between prehistoric material culture and the lifeways of contemporary indigenous communities. By integrating archaeological, geological, and ethnographic evidence, I investigate cultural continuity, technological traditions, landscape adaptation, and long-term human–environment interactions, contributing to a deeper understanding of human evolution and the prehistoric heritage of the Indian subcontinent.
