Biographical Sketch
Dr. Barna Chakraborty completed her M.Sc. in Zoology and M.Phil. in Ecology from University of Kalyani, West Bengal and securing First Class in both degrees. She subsequently worked as a Project Fellow under a Government of India–funded Department of Biology project in the Department of Zoology at Vidyasagar University. She was awarded her Ph.D. in Zoology from the same university in 2013.She has been serving as an Assistant Professor in Zoology in CDOE, Vidyasagar University since 2009 & also in a position with additional charge in Zoology. She is actively involved in teaching M.Sc. and Ph.D. students and conducts research in the fields of agroecology, agricultural entomology, and sericulture, environmental biotechnology, and sustainable bioresource utilization.
Academic Interest
Dr Chakraborty has actively engaged in community outreach through project-based initiatives aimed at empowering women in Southwest Bengal, where she led several training and capacity-building programme and conducted practical demonstration programmes in villages adopted by the university, promoting sustainable practices and community development. She has authored 31 research papers published in reputed national and international journals, along with book chapters in an edited volume published by a recognized academic publisher of national and international repute. During her tenure, she also developed six self-learning materials designed as instructional resources for postgraduate students of Zoology. She was engaged as a Guest Speaker on a special program on agriculture, called 'Matix’s Krishi Pathshala' to convey a special message in the field of agriculture under ‘PM Pranam Scheme'. Organized by ‘Betar Vidyasagar’, Community Radio Station of Vidyasagar University since 2024-2025. Dr Chakraborty has presented her research findings at numerous national and international seminars, conferences, and symposiums in India and abroad. She has received Best Paper/Excellent Presentation awards at select academic events in recognition of her scholarly contributions. She is currently engaged in a university-sponsored research project on vermicomposting focusing on environmentally friendly technologies. In addition, she regularly serves as a reviewer for reputed international scientific journals, contributing to the advancement of research in her areas of expertise.
