Biographical Sketch
Prof. Sumita Roy is a Professor in the Department of Chemistry & Chemical Technology at Vidyasagar University, Midnapore, West Bengal, India. Prof. Roy obtained her Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Chemistry from the Vidyasagar University. She obtained his Ph.D. from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) - Kharagpur under the supervision of Prof. Joykrishna Dey in 2005. She began her academic career as a Lecturer at Vidyasagar University in 2005 and serving as Associate Professor, and Professor (since 2020). She teaches postgraduate courses in Statistical Mechanics, Irreversible Thermodynamics, Chemical Kinetics, Solid State Chemistry, Macromolecules and Surface Chemistry. She is also a recipient of the National Prize in 1995 and qualified the CSIR National Eligibility Test, State Eligibility Test (SET) and GATE examination. Prof. Roy’s research interests include study of the physicochemical properties of lipid based drug delivery systems, gelation study, wastewater treatment, and molecular sensing. Her works focus on the synthesis and characterization of different small molecular weight amphiphilic molecules with applications in surfactant industries, drug delivery, sensing of toxic ions, and waste water treatment. Her work has been recognized by her publication of several international research articles in SCI/SCIE, Scopus, and Web of Science indexed journals. Prof. Roy has successfully supervised more than ten (10) Ph.D. scholars and continues to mentor doctoral researchers in areas including Surface Chemistry, Self-assembly Property, Gelation Chemistry, Waste water Treatment and Bio-physical Chemistry. She has completed several funded research projects supported by DST-SERB, CSIR and DSTB, Govt. of West Bengal. Prof. Roy is a member of Indian Society for Surface Science and Technology. She is actively engaged in teaching, research, academic mentorship, contributing to the advancement of chemical sciences and higher education.
Academic Interest
Prof. Sumita Roy’s research activities include study of the physicochemical properties of lipid based drug delivery systems, gelation study, wastewater treatment, and fluorescence based molecular sensing. Her works focus on the synthesis and characterization of different small molecular weight amphiphilic molecules with applications in surfactant industries, pharmaceutical industries, sensing of toxic ions, and wastewater treatment. Through doctoral and post-doctoral supervision, interdisciplinary collaboration, and scholarly publications in reputed international journals, Prof. Roy actively contributes to the advancement of Chemical Sciences in emerging areas of Biophysical and Environmental Chemistry.
